Translations

The Jane Austen Collection has over 300 translations of Austen’s novels in 30 languages. The collection was built largely through the generous donations of Goucher alumna Alberta Hirshheimer Burke ’28, along with additional contributions from Jane Austen Society of North America members Edith Lank and Barbara Winn Adams. All three women accumulated their translations through corresponding with booksellers, fellow collectors, and scholars worldwide.

Translations are valuable for scholars who want to study Austen’s global impact, cultural diversity, international publishing, and the act of translation.

The cover images are arranged by title, language, and date of publication. If available, a link to the catalog record is included. If you would like to donate a Jane Austen translation that you do not see here, please contact archives@goucher.edu
